Diseases of the lower urinary tract commonly afflict cats (We do not use the term "Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease" because we have not yet found any problems unique to cats that would permit use of the adjective "Feline, and because the plurality of lower urinary tract problems preclude use of the singular term "Disease" ). In our experience, owners of cats most often present their pet for treatment because it urinated in an inappropriate place. They also may have seen the cat attempting to urinate more frequently than usual or straining to urinate, and they may have seen blood in the cat's urine. None of these signs of irritative voiding is diagnostic for any particular disease; they are the nonspecific responses of the bladder to injury.
