New strategies to prevent the progression of chronic renal failure

The progression of chronic renal failure could be defined as a progressive decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) due to destruction of renal parenchyma. However, clinical impression suggests that a "uremic crisis" or even less dramatic signs may be precipitated by extrarenal factors, without a marked change in status of the kidneys except for superimposition of prerenal or extrarenal factors, In our presentation, we will accept a broad view of the definition of progression of chronic renal failure to include both renal and extrarenal factors.
