Seismic proving tests were conducted to verify the effect of energy absorbing supports developed for application to nuclear power plant piping systems. Main steam and feedwater pipings inside the containment vessel have the important function of carrying reactor coolant and were selected for the test model with scaling of 1:2.3. The test model had two kinds of typical energy absorbing supports. One was EAB(Energy Absorber) utilizing X-shaped steel plates' elasto-plastic deformation. The other was LED(Lead Extrusion Damper) utilizing plastic deformation of internal lead. The response wave for design earthquake used to construct actual PWR plants was selected as the input wave used in the test, and it was the strictest possible wave for the test model. In the design of the test model, we employed response spectrum analysis which employs iterative calculation of EAB displacements using each mode's damping ratio. We determined location and capacity of supports and pipe stress to meet the current design standard based on the analysis results. This paper reports the validity of the design analysis method for piping systems supported by energy absorbing supports and its effect based on an evaluation and comparison of analysis results with test results for the test model of the F-line.
