Firstly, the analysis method of the determination of the running strong coupling constant as(Q2) based on jet rates in deep inelastic ep-scattering at HERA will be briefly reviewed. In this context, the effects on the measured value ag(M|) of different recombination schemes while denning the jet multiplicity for an event with the JADE algorithm is studied. Secondly, a next-to-leading-order extraction of the gluon density in the proton as well from jet rates by using the technique of Mellin transforms will be discussed and preliminary results are presented.
