The electrocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde and ethylene glycol was studied on porous carbon electrodes supported with Pd-Ag bimetallic catalysts. 5 wt% Pd-Ag/C catalysts were prepared by chemical and dry reduction methods and XRD technique was employed to characterise the binary phase. Enhanced activity for the oxidation of ethylene glycol was noticed at 50 at% composition leading to a synergetic effect. This behaviour is explained by a concerted mechanism.
