Since sequence stratigraphy was put forward by P.R. Vail, close attention has been paid to it widespreadly. Sequence stratigraphy is a synthesized interpretation to strata types based on seismic, drilling and related outcrop data. A chronostratigraphic system of genetically related cyclic strata can be set up based on the noncontinuous surface. The study of sequence stratigraphy did not start early in China. Qiao Xiufu et al. (1991) studied sequence stratigraphy of the Altay Group in Inner Mongolia, Xu Qiang et al. (1991) studied sequence stratigraphy of Devonian sedimentary basins in Zaxun, eastern Qinling Mountains, Xu Huaida et al. (1992) studied Tertiary sequence stratigraphy in Northern China based on seismic, drilling and logging data. Recently, progress has been made in the study of sedimentary basin sequence stratigraphy, but the study of outcrop sequence stratigraphy, especially for carbonate platforms, just begins, and much more questions about it are in exploration.
