NDT technique using non-linear analysis for Sound Perception is still an innovative tool with a wide range of possible applications, and it has been investigated in identify structural deterioration of concrete plates (tiles) covering a walkable roof, in-use as escape way from multiplex cinema security exit. The idea arise in listening to the sound emitted by the plates when beaten with rubber hammer, human ear could actually notice a different sound emission with a variable timber (tonality in first approach) among good and damaged plates. Upon results from a preliminary screening on a minimal set of plates in different area of coverage (this present report), which has given a significant correlation between subjective and objective results, more than ten-thousands plates were tested and classified with a good statistical correlation. This work present some results of analysis of experimental data obtained from the measurement of the vibro-acoustic response of the elements (tiles), introducing the applied sound analysis technique, the statistical results, the money and time saving by applying the NDT, and the positive feedback in terms of reliability achieved.
