Many workers in the construction industry can be exposed to high level of impulsive noise and vibration from the operation of nail guns. Since these tools use a single shock to hammer a nail, using RMS weighted acceleration, such as the a_(hw) value (ISO 5049-1), might not be sufficient to assess health risks from such impulsive vibration exposure. This paper will explore alternate weightings and metrics to assess the vibration exposure from single-shock tools such as nail guns.
