Photoluminescent inks were prepared by incorporating Cu doped ZnS phosphor into glass frits and organic vehicle and the inks were then fired onto glass or ceramic substrates. Effect of sintering time and temperature on photo-luminescent intensity of Cu doped ZnS was studied. Phase analysis was carried out by XRD. Cu doped ZnS undergoes a reaction when it is fired at temperatures higher than 700°C. Effect of glass composition and weight fraction on photoluminescent property of the inks was studied. The emission and excitation spectra of the inks show negligible change compared with that of Cu doped ZnS. Lead containing glasses destroy the luminescent property of the Cu doped ZnS and titanium decreases strongly the luminescent intensity. ZnO containing glass frits are suitable for making photoluminescent inks for its advantage of low softening temperature.
