摘要

A classification system of forest humus forms was tested over a range of environmental conditions in the southern Appalachian Mountains of western NC. The new system is easy to understand, can be objectively and quickly applied, and compares favorably to an earlier classification system. Using this system, humus forms were found to be associated with six ecological types.
