AQUASEF is a LIFE+ integrated application project in which renewable energy, advanced aeration techniques and self-produced renewable oxygen are tested for advanced aeration of fish and molluscs breeding tanks, while the by-produced hydrogen is stored and then regenerated into electricity and heat. The main objective of the project is to demonstrate, promote and disseminate the efficient and low emission innovative technologies tested, along with spreading the best practices to be implemented in the aquaculture sector along the European Union. The project's actions shall reduce bom energy and oxygen dependence of the facility, reducing as well the environmental impacts by effluent treatment and CO2 fixation techniques based on microalgae cultivation. AQUASEF's experimental tasks are being implemented in a commercial onshore aquaculture plant in southern Spain; these works and the final testing period began in 2014 and are intended to finalize in 2017.
