Enhancement of environmental protection, quality of life and safety as well as reduction of import dependency are some reasons which demand future energy systems increasingly to rely on renewable energy sources. In many countries only the fluctuating renewable energy from wind and sun have the potential to significantly contribute to the electricity production. However, the supply of renewable energy is linked to its weather, which is strongly depended on the site. Thereby, the power supply is spatially distributed as well as daily and seasonally volatile. The efficient grid integration as well as the preferably full utilization of the fluctuating weather dependent power supply sources causes the need for new energy system solutions.
