摘要

From the leaves of begunia, Vitex negundo Linn. (Verbenaceae) the active component was isolated by extraction and fractionation using different solvents, silica gel column and thin layer chromatographic techniques. During the process of isolation, biological activities in each fraction or extract were tested against the egg laying capacity of females, larval hatching and development to adults of three rice storage insects viz., Sitotroga cerealella Oliv., Rhyzopertha dominica Fabr. and Sitophilus oryzae Linn. under laboratory conditions. Finally isolated biologically active component was purified and studied for its physico-chemical properties. Elementary and spectroscopic (IR, UV, Mass and NMR) analyses of the component were done to establish its chemical structure. The component was found to be an open chain ketonic compound of a molecular formula C_(37)H_(74)O and probable structure as
