DIMETHAZONE IS A NON-COMPETITIVE INHIBITOR OF PRENYLTRANSFERASES

Dimethazone [ 2- (2-chlorophenyl) methyl-4,4-dimethyl-3-isoxazolidinone, FMC 57020], a newly developed preemergence herbicide for weed control in soybeans, is regarded as a bleaching compound, since it decreases chlorophyll and carotenoid levels in plants. We have studied the inhibitory action of dimethazone with cellular and cell-free assay systems.
