DEPLOYMENT OF THE SOUTHERN BELL PulseLinksm NETWORK

On July 1,1983, Southern Bell began offering its tariffed packet network service,PulseLink,in the South Florida area. Since then, the network has continued to be expanded into the rest of the company's four state territory. As a result, methods and procedures for the management of the PulseLink network have been developed and integrated, where practical,into the organizations that traditionally perform these tasks.This paper will describe the architecture of the PulseLink network,the management of its expansion,engineering of its components, the monitoring of network capacities and the maintenance and trouble reporting process. In addition, the new organizational functions that have been established will also be discussed.
