TSD studies have been carried out on cellulose triacetate (CTA), Polystyrene (PS) and their laminated films to study the interfacial phenomena. Only one peak at 80 °C is observed at lower polarising temperature and field while at higher temperature and fields two peaks (at 80 °C and 160 °C) appear, when the negative voltage is applied to CTA (CTA). The TSC study with CTA also gives two peaks at about 80°C and 130°C. The 80°C peak is a dipolar peak due to CTA dipoles. The peaks at 130°C and 160°C are assigned to charge trapping in PS film, and at the polymer interface respectively. These results have also been supported by TSC studies on the samples polarized by AC fields. It has also been suggested that electron injection and their trapping in the surface layer is the cause of polarization in PS films.
