MAGNET:Columbia's Integrated Network Test Bed

摘要

MAGNET is a Network Testbed designed to evaluate the perforrnance of local area network architectures and tocols supporting integrated services such as video,voice,graphics,data and facsimile.It consists of hardware and software comprising an applicstion system for conducting the actual experiments and an expert system,consisting of a system monitor and traffic generator,for generating traffic,gathering empirical data and dynamically controlling the network protocol parameters.An active slotted ring topology was chosen to implement flexible sequential type access isms.The testbed is based on fiber optic techmology with wave division multiplexing of two 100 M b/s channels The media access protocol provides higher levels with the capability of implementing two modes of operation referred to as circuit switching and pecket switching modes,respectively.Provisions have also been made for implementing simultaneous scheduling as well as centralized and decentralized access control schemes.
