The paper describes the beneficial effect of a pickling treatment in a neutral electrolyte on the final quality properties of tinplate, i.e., corrosion resistance, morphology of the alloy layer, continuity of the coating, etc.The relevance of the degree of cleanliness of the blackplate surface after pickling in neutral solution to the nucleation and growth of tin and iron-tin crystals has been investigated in detail.
