In Japan, existing pile driver commonly used such as a diesel hammer or a vibratory driver is often restricted in an urban area because of noise and vibration. Under the circumstances, a new pile driving method developed in NTT are consisted of water jet and static load, which enable driving steel pile noiselessly and efficiency. The static load in this method is estimated about 20 tons, to drive steel sheet pilings up to 15 meters into the ground, if from 200 to 300 Kg/cm~2 water-jet pressure is used. (Water volume is from 90 to 120 1/min) It was ascertained in the field that in the case of sandy soil ground, this equipment took about 20 minutes to drive piling 15 meters deep. Consequently by use of this equipment, the vibration was under 60 dB and the noise was under 75 dB. The new equipment will be widely used in the construction work on site.
