Ideas are presented for using the sampling period as an additionalparameter to permit the control of a digital control system. In thisclass of systems the sampling period becomes an important parameter toguarantee the stability and to modify widely the specification in adesign problem. A modified root locus approach has been used and thesensitivity of the poles in the closed loop system is examined. Anexample shows how to compensate for variation in the gain of an openloop transfer function with the sampling period used to maintain aconstant damping ratio
