Based on the published experimental results, the applicabilityof the empirical formulae and the proposed formula wasinvestigated in this paper. From the investigation, the followingconclusions can be drawn:(1) A confinement coefficient ηc is proposed to reflect theconfinement effect of concrete strength in axially loadedcircular HCCFST stub columns;(2) The proposed formula can effectively predict thecompressive strengths of circular HCCFST stub columnsfabricated not only within a large range ofdiameter-to-thickness ratio and hollow ratio, but alsowithin normal- and high- strength steel and concrete;(3) When the hollow ratio is equal to zero, the proposedformula can also be used to predict the compressivestrengths of axially loaded circular CFST stub columns.
