The roles of team skills training and team building in improvingperformance

Team skills training has been a part of control room crewdevelopment for a number of years. Team building has been receivingattention as an effective approach to continued improvement of teamperformance. Although both team skills and team building are focused onthe process of team effectiveness, they are not interchangeable. Teambuilding with a group that has not yet been exposed to team skills isnot likely to be successful. Conversely, the fact that a control roomcrew possesses superior team skills does not necessarily ensure teamsuccess. Both team skills training and team building play an importantrole in the ability of control room crews to become high performanceteams
