The Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center ontelerehabilitation: mission and approaches

The mission of the new RERC on telerehabilitation is to improveaccess to care and services for persons with disabilities, throughstrategic research and development (R&D) activities andcomprehensive evaluation capabilities. This paper focuses on theengineering aspects of our approaches toward meeting this aim, and inparticular on the various human-technology systems models that are underevaluation for enabling effective telerehabilitation solutions. Fourmodels have been found to capture the various approaches towardtelerehabilitation solutions: community telemedicine; telehomecare;telemonitoring; teletherapy
