In this study, an improved mesh-free method is used to simulate the dambreakflow over partial ice cover. The spatial operators and time-splittingscheme are based on the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method.The dam-break wave can cause violent flow when encounters the partialice cover. A free surface flow can spread over the ice cover and a surgecan be induced due to the hindering effect from the ice. Meanwhile, thedam-break wave can push the water body under the ice cover. Twolengths of the ice cover are investigated numerically, examining the freesurface and pressure variation.
