Plunging wave breaking is one of the most violent air-water interactionphenomena. A thorough understanding of the physics of this highlyunsteady two-phase flow phenomena is important for investigating shipbow breaking waves. This paper focuses on the hydrodynamicsimulation of the whole process of plunging breaking waves generatedby a sharp wedge-shaped bow and the velocity and vorticity field in theregion of the bow and in the breaking waves. A numerical towing tankis constructed with a vertical wedge fixed in the middle of the tank andthe incident flow set as uniform. The numerical results of the bow waveprofile at different locations in the vicinity of the bow are compared toexperiments to validate the two-phase flow solver. Further numericalanalysis is performed for different inlet flow velocity to investigate theinfluence of Froude number on the shape of bow breaking waves.
