Introduction

The seventh annual conference on Optics for Arts, Architecture and Archaeologywas held in Munich in June 2019 and was the latest edition of a long-runningconference series, dating back to 2001. It was originally under the name LaserTechniques and Systems in Art Conservation. 2019 was a year of renewal with theappointment of new conference chairs to take the conference forward into thefuture, but it was also a good moment to look back at the history of theconference. The new chairs would like to thank the past chairs for their enormouscontribution to the success of this conference series: Renzo Salimbeni (2001-2011),Luca Pezzati (2005-2017), Costas Fotakis (2007) and Piotr Targowski (2013-2019).
