Abstract: This paper presents the design and preliminary test results of a piezoelectric stack (piezostack) driven leading-edge flap actuator. The actuator uses six commercially available piezostacks with a curved contact tip for force and stroke profile tailoring. Force requirements were calculated using a quasi-steady aerodynamic model. Stroke amplification is achieved through a single lever. Initial results show that the current prototype is not ready to achieve the desired stroke output, but potential problems are identified and action is being take to rectify these problems.!10
