The improvements achievable using diversity with matched filterreceivers operating on lognormal shadowed Nakagami fading channels areanalyzed. Three microdiversity techniques, equal gain, maximal ratio,and selection combining, are compared. The system performances areassessed by considering two performance measures: one well suited formobile users and one well suited for portable users. The improvementsgained by using microdiversity to combat multipath fading andmacrodiversity to combat shadowing are investigated for noncoherentmodulations
