ACTFlow: A Target-Oriented Finite Volume Solver for All-Speed Compressible Turbulent Flow Simulations

This paper presents the development and assessment of ACTFlow, a target-oriented finite volume solver to simulate all-speed compressible turbulent flows on unstructured mixed-element grids. ACTFlow adopts state-of-the-art numerical components for spatial/temporal discretization and various levels of turbulence approximations. Code verification is carried out using the method of manufactured solutions and four verification cases provided by the NASA Turbulence Modeling Resource website. Then, the capability of ACTFlow is critically assessed by simulating the flow-field around three full aircraft configurations: the NASA Common Research Model, the NASA High Lift Common Research Model, and the NASA Concept C25D Flow Through Nacelle. Each case represents transonic, subsonic, and supersonic flow simulation and all cases include large-scale computations using over 100 million solution points. The computed results demonstrate ACTFlow's ability to run accurate and robust simulations over a wide range of Mach numbers and angles of attack.
