Design and Analysis of Sliding Mode Control for Single-Phase VSI

It is necessary to retain a reasonable voltage control and to achieve a fast-dynamic response under abrupt load variations in the uninterruptible power source (UPS). This paper suggests a modern voltage source inverter (VSI) referring to as a single-phase SM-controlled VSI. For the intent of maximizing the inverter dynamics, although maintaining optimal service under any operating situation a sliding mode control (SMC) with a proportional-integral (PI) controller is proposed. The main benefits of SMC are its robustness and dynamic performance which leads to a steady-state response. SMC is simple to use as compared to other non-linear controllers. However, the THD of inverter's output of linear load is 0.22% whereas THD of non-linear is 3.84%. This paper includes operation, analysis, control strategy and experimental results. The result shows the good performance of proposed controller. The simulated results represented for step load in voltage and current. The new inverter can be used with a UPS and ac drivers.
