Comparison of Residents' Attitude and Behavior on Water Use in Rapidly Urbanizing Communities in Hanoi City, Vietnam

摘要

Rapid urbanization causes deterioration of living environment and quality of life due to deficit of infrastructure and public services in suburb areas of big cities in developing countries. Proper installation, operation and maintenance of such infrastructure and public services require not only strategic efforts by governments but also understanding and cooperation by users and residents. In this study, we compared residents' attitude and behavior on water use among 4 different communities in the different stage of urbanization and public water installation, located in the suburb area of Hanoi city, Vietnam. Interview surveys were carried out in August 2016, 2017 and 2018. The results of 195 samples in the survey suggest that difference of attitudes and opinions was caused not only through installation of public water supply, but also by the condition of public water supply.
