Concept maps are used in teaching to aid the learning process. Use of concept mapping for other purposes such as communicating course contents is not always successful for STEM courses due to complexity of subjects taught. This paper proposes a new type of maps, the course teaching map (CTM). To create a course teaching map, course elements as well as relationships between them must be represented on the map. The position of elements relative to each other is also significant. The resulting map is easy to read and convey a great deal of information, such as course learning outcomes, pre-requisite knowledge and more importantly teaching stages leading to achievement of course learning outcomes. This information and other can be easily extracted from the map even if one has little knowledge about subject.
