Chemours has developed and commercialized new 4th generation, low global warming potential (GWP) and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) fluorocarbons known as Opteon™ 1100 and Opteon™ 1150 as sustainable blowing agents for the PU industry. These hydrofluoroolefins (HFO) demonstrate a wide range of attributes well suited to delivering thermal insulation and energy saving improvements either by themselves or in combination with other non-fluorinated blowing agents, such as hydrocarbons. The synergistic impact of these blends can make significant improvements in rigid PU foam insulation performance through a variety of mechanisms raging from vapor equilibria modification to cell nucleation. This poster covers fundamental studies addressing thermal performance of Opteon™ blowing agents in rigid polyurethane foams with examples covering spray foam, appliance and panel applications.
