A Uniplanar Monopole Antenna for LTE/UMTS/WLAN in Tablet Computer Applications

This paper presents a monopole antenna operating in the LTE/UMTS/WLAN for tablet computer applications. This antenna is composed of a direct-fed T-shape monopole antenna and two branch monopole antennas. The impedance bandwidth of these branch antennas is 386 MHz (697 - 1083 MHz) and covers LTE 700/900 and UMTS 850, and it of the T-shaped antenna is 1635 MHz (1478 -- 3113 MHz) and covers UMTS 2100, LTE 1700/1800/2500/2600 and WLAN 2.4 GHz. The antenna size is 50 × 12 mm² and printed on a 0.8 mm thickness FR4 board. The ground plane of the display is 200 × 150 mm² of the 9.7-inch LCD display. The measured efficiencies of the lower-band and the higher-band are approximately 72.6% and 83%, and peak gains are 4.2 dBi and 4.8 dBi.
