A design scheme of a novel multi-branch monopole antenna for WLAN/ WiMAX application is presented in the paper. The proposed antenna with 3-branch is compact with a total size of 26 mm× 24 mm× 1. 6 mm. A prototype is constructed and tested. The test results show good dual band operations with ∣S11∣≤ -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 4% and 62. 4% centered at 2. 47 GHz and 4. 825 GHz respectively, which cover both the WALN bands in 2. 4/5. 2/5. 8 GHz bands and the WiMAX 3. 5/5. 5 GHz bands. A new technique of using a slot in the ground plane has been employed to achieve the multiband performance of the antenna.
