1200kV high power testing laboratory, a newly-built laboratory of the State Grid Corporation of China, has been equipped with some improved equipment recently. In this paper, we describe the current condition of the laboratory and discuss the principle of optimizing design of some important parameters for main equipment in oscillating circuit. First, it is important to choose a reasonable circuit to realize the aim of the laboratory. Second, most parameters of test duties of oscillating circuit should be calculated, and the variables of the circuit equations are transformed to no-dimensional form. Then the number of variables of the circuit equation reduces, and this will greatly reduce the workload of the parameter calculation. Third, based on the results including most parameters of test duties, we calculated overvoltage between different equipment by simulation, and the influence of parasitic parameters is considered as far as possible. Then, we can get the single-objective optimized configuration of device parameters by computer. Finally, we pointed out some insulation problems that should be paid particular attention to.
