In order to realize an optimal power distribution in double-sources energy system of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) or Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), a fuzzy logic control based power management strategy for longer battery life time is presented in this paper. Battery and ultracapacitor are the two sources studied here. A battery lifetime degradation model is included to develop the relationship between the battery charge/discharge behavior and the impact on its lifetime. The simulation results with multiple speed profiles from standard driving cycles (US EPA) verify that the proposed fuzzy control-based power management strategy helps reduce the battery degradation significantly.
