1.Increasing the chain surface area always lowers the specific fuel consumption, however, the incremental benefit from additional chain decreases rapidly as chain area is increased. At some point the fuel savings resulting from the addition of chain do not justify the cost of installing them. 2.Having too little or too much chain appears to cause issues with rings. Wet mud leaving chain section can result in mud rings. High gas temperatures entering the chain section can result in dust rings. 3.There is a balance between chain surface area and density. Increasing the density lowers the gas temperature entering the chain section. Too much chain piles up on the bottom of the kiln and restricts flow.
