From the perspective of residential energy consumption which is significantly impacted by living standards, 24 provinces were selected as samples to be analysed by means of factor analysis and cluster analysis to explore the present state between Chinese buildings' energy consumption and living standards and pave the way for further research. It has been shown that the samples were divided into 3 categories according to per capita energy consumption and comparisons were made among the various types. The more urban residents' disposable income and per capita consumption expenditure, the greater per capita energy consumption building will be. The more urban resident population, the less energy consumption per capita is used. The better people's living standards, the higher per capita urban building energy consumption generated.
