1. The screened monthly 1/Vis dataset shows consistent trends with observations as well as historical SO_2 emissions. 2. GEOS-Chem is capable of simulating reasonable trends in 1/Vis and PM_(2.5) chemical compositions. 3. GEOS-Chem suggests major contribution from SIA and OM over populated regions, from OM over biomass burning intensive regions, and from dust over deserts, to the PM_(2.5) trends. 4.
