Comparative Study on the Fire-extinguishing Ability of Phosphates

In order to find new dry powder extinguishing agents, thermal analysis on four types of phosphate, including ammonium dihydrogen phosphate(ADP), melamine phosphate (MP), urea phosphate (UP) and potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP), were invested in this paper.It also studied the feasibilities of developing new extinguishing agents in comparison with traditional ADP dry powder fire-extinguishing agent.And the decomposition mechanisms of the four samples were researched based on the DG and DSC curves.The results show that the thermal decompositions of MP and UP were relatively complete,which may imply high extinguishing efficiency, while only dehydration reaction occurred to KDP, which may means lower extinguishing efficiency.To verify the results mentioned above, the four samples were conducted in a fire-extinguishing efficiency test.According to the results, UP and ADP possess comparatively similar fire-extinguishing capacities, which arc worthy of further research and exploration; the fire-extinguishing efficiency of MP is intermediate and second to UP, which may be useful in some occasions; The KDP's fire-extinguishing efficiency is relatively low with limited research values.
