The reserves quality criterion and the economic optimal sustaining plan for Longlake oil sands field in Canada are discussed in this paper.According to the actual production effect statistics of the existing pads in this field,it is clear that the exploitable reserves abundances,the sandstone proportion and water saturation are the key geological factors affecting the SAGD development effect.Based on the combination of these three parameters,the quality criterion of oil sands reserves is put forward.The reserve quality division of 9 sustaining areas were completed,based on which,6 reserve development schemes were gave out.Combined with drilling,production,construction and economic studies,the economy optimal sustaining plan for Longlake was determined,in which the reserves with exploitable reserve abundance greater than 5.5 m~3/m~2,and the sandstone proportion higher than 50% are recommended to be developed.Compared with the traditional understanding of the industry,this scheme can reduce 264 SAGD well pairs which will help to increase the 1RR by 4.9%,makes the long-term production of Longlake to be economic.The tied-in time,peak oil rate,and the capacity range of key surface facilities in 9 sustaining areas are determined,which provides a clear direction for the follow-up development of this oilfield.The dynamic performance based oil sands reserve quality criterion and the economic development reserve workflow are proposed for the first time in this paper.This work provide a reference for the sustaining plan study for other oil sands fields in Athabasca Basin.
