In recent years, the near space vehicle has quickly attracted many countries'attention due to its tremendous strategic value. The near space vehicle technology has become the international high-tech competition of the new strategic high ground. Location and tracking for the ground target is the basis and prerequisite to complete various tasks as a key technology of the near space vehicle. This paper focuses on the ground target location and tracking problem based on near space vehicle. Furthermore, making use of direction of arrival and its rate of change, an effective location and tracking method based on the cubature particle filter is presented. In the presented approach, the cubature kalman filter is used to generate the importance density function of particle filter algorithm, so that the presented approach can make effectively use of the latest measurement information. As a result, the importance density function is closer to the real posterior probability distribution of the system. Therefore, the filter performance can be improved greatly. Simulation results show the faster convergence speed and better location precision of the presented method comparing with other relevant algorithms.
