摘要

By virtue of its high dielectric strength and good arc suppressing ability, SF6has become widely used in circuit breakers and a variety of gas-insulated equipment in power engineering. Although SF6is ”chemically” inactive, it undergoes decomposition and reactions with metallic and nonmetallic materials under drastic conditions of high currents, electric fields, and temperatures, etc., that may obtain in power arc. Under these conditions, SF6reacts with metal electrodes to yield gaseous and solid reaction products 1. A number of attempts have been made to study the characteristics of the gaseous by-products but only few scholars has studied the characteristics of solid by-products.
