This paper presents a digital method to quantitatively analyze occlusion and equilibrium by using the balance of occlusal force (BOOF) model. The occlusal relationship is recovered by the registration between computed tomography digital models and dental cast digital models. Based on the BOOF model established according to occlusal contact information and mechanical equilibrium constraints, the center position of force and the distribution of the occlusal force are studied, measured, and compared with the T-Scan system. The proposed method can be applied to occlusal analysis of clinical models and extended to orthodontics, prosthodontics and implantodontics to provide a mechanical basis and reference for designing prostheses, dental implants, and surgical guides. A case research is used to explain the entire process of digital analysis of occlusion. The results proved the accuracy and feasibility of this method.
