A new fast switching 1200V IGBT is developed utilizing field stop trench technology. This new IGBT combines both low V_(CE(sat)) and small switching loss, and meets application specific needs of photovoltaic (PV) inverters, welding machines, or on-line uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). The device characteristics and performance in target applications are evaluated.
