As part of Denver Water’s expansion to service the growing Northfield Stapleton area in Denver,Colorado, the Utility needed to install a 24-inch diameter water line under Interstate 70 and an existing UnionPacific Railroad track. Due to construction of a new interchange at the Interstate 70 location, the Interstate 70 boreneeded to be 914-feet long to pass under the Colorado DOT right-of-way. Future planned construction at the UnionPacific Railroad crossing required the Union Pacific Railroad bore to be 325-feet. This paper presents an overviewof the construction of these two tunnels as well as an analysis of some of the data gathered during construction.
