For its development of motor drive evaluation boards, Analog Devices needed to determinehow best to generate bias power for isolated gate drivers driving the IGBTs. The methodsused should be compatible with all motor control drive output waveforms, should be easy toimplement and control, and should be energy-efficient and cost-competitive.We built a motor drive platform which used the following inputs: (AC mains voltage, 12VSELV for bias input power, and pwm signals from a DSP) to control a 0.5 horsepower 3-phase induction motor. Using this platform, we implemented and tested several techniques.The purpose of this paper is to summarize the results and conclusions of this work.
