Automatic Train Operation of High-Speed Trains with State Constraints: A Nested Proportion-like Control Approach

This paper addresses the control design for automatic train operation of high-speed trains with state constraints. Nested proportion-like control schemes, capable of guaranteeing, for some proper initial conditions, the states of train, including real-time position and speed, with specified constraints and bounded closed-loop signals. The state constraints are the moving authority of speed restriction in practice. A novel modeling method using hyperbolic tangent function is proposed for the first time to model the dynamics of high-speed trains. The proposed state feedback controllers, including a constant-gain feedback one and a nonlinear-gain feedback one, are computationally inexpensive and quite practical ones because of that adaptations of unknown parameters, function approximation of unknown dynamics, and attenuation of external disturbances are all not involved in the controllers, which is a low-complexity one. Finally, comparative simulation results clarify and verify the approach.
