This work aims at analyzing the behavior of human Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) MDA-MB-231 cells due to reversible electroporation by its cell viability and the uptake of mint extract. The cell viability of TNBC cells when treated with 250μg/ml mint extract alone, 600V/cm alone, 800V/cm alone, Mint+600V/cm, Mint+800V/cm was analyzed. Results indicate that cell survival, as low as 3.67% was induced by combined treatment of mint and electrical pulse with 800V/cm after 72 hours, while it was 59.78% and 12.17% for 800V/cm alone and mint extract alone respectively. This indicate that reversible electroporation results in reduced cell viability, due to enhanced uptake of the mint extract to the phospholipid bilayer. There might be a structural rearrangement and the membrane rapidly acquires new electrical conduction pathways. For eight 100μs pulses of 800V/cm, cell viability of 3.67% is observed, which might be due to the synergy of electrical pulses and enhanced molecular transport of the mint extract. Natural bioactive compounds serve as an excellent alternative for harsh chemotherapeutic drugs. Combined treatment of mint and electrical pulses could contribute for TNBC cancer treatment.
